a) the many different ways in which the English, Welsh, and Scots who travelled in Britain discovered their own home in the 1500s and 1600s and tried to understand the ethnic-cultural complexity of Britain.

b) research on travel and encounter in the early modern acts as a critique of how British History has been taught in the last century and its failure to equip modern Britons to deal with cultural diversity and racism today, including in the context of BREXIT
